What better way to say “thank you” this holiday season than by setting the table for those who are hungry? Join members of The Congregational Church of Needham and Rise Against Hunger to pack 10,000 meal kits for hungry neighbors around the world. Here’s how Rise Against Hunger describes their work:

“We target remote, last-mile communities within hunger pockets designated “serious” or higher on the Global Hunger Index, With the support of our global impact partners, we practice locally-led development by providing expertise vital to empower local communities and meals through local schools to incentivize attendance and enable kids to obtain an education. Our work starts with a meal.”

This is an ALL-AGES VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY and a great event for the whole family to share. We will have snacks on-hand immediately following worship so you won’t have to run home to get something to eat and try to make it back in time to start packing.

  • Set-up (8:30-10am, No Children, please);
  • Packing (12 Noon-2pm, All Ages); and/or

Our Rise Against Hunger 10,000 meal-packing event, which benefits hungry people outside the U.S. was planned months ago, long before we knew Congress and this administration would lead us into possibly the longest-ever government shutdown and the cut-off of SNAP benefits to hungry neighbors in our own country. But here we are, and as of November 1, more than 42 million Americans will be unable to access the food they need.

It costs us approximately $4000 to fund the 10,000 meal-packing event, so we're looking to raise $4000 for the Greater Boston Foodbank, which supports local food pantries around the metro area, including the Community Food Pantry in Needham and our friends at the Allston Brighton Food Pantry. To help us reach this goal, the Outreach Committee will match total donations up to $2000.
