Thinking about joining us for worship? Here's some things you can expect...
- First of all: No, the roof won't collapse just because you walk in--no matter what anyone else may have told you. (We hear that a lot.) We specialize in "first-in-a-long-time-if-ever" church-goers. Just take a deep breath...
- When we say "All are welcome," we mean it: all. Straight, gay, richer, poorer, white, black, cisgender, trans, etc. etc. We are ALL God's beloved family.
- Children are REALLY welcome. We believe children aren't the future of the church; they're the church RIGHT NOW. We also know they wiggle and laugh and drop things and even cry. No biggie. There's even a special time just for kids in our worship service.
- We believe it's possible to be serious about our faith and informal in our approach. You don't have to wear a jacket (though some do). You can wear jeans (though some don't). The pastors don't wear robes. You may spot a tattoo or two.
- We won't tell you who to vote for, but we are going to talk about real life and current events. After all, politics is about how share the world God has entrusted to all of us. That's where the rubber meets the road in our faith.
- We celebrate the sacrament of communion (ie, the eucharist, the Lord's Supper, that thing with the bread and the cup) the first Sunday of each month, and you are invited to share, if you want. You don't need to be a member of this church or any other; you don't even need to be baptized. That table belongs to Jesus, not us, and he's the one who invites us all to "taste and see the goodness of God." Also, we always use non-alcoholic grape juice, out of respect for those living with addictions, and our communion bread is always gluten-free.
- Our worship is liturgical, meaning we celebrate the seasons of the church year from Advent to Lent to Easter to Pentecost, but...
- Expect change. Embrace surprises. Pinwheels. A snapping turtle. A work project as a sermon. You never know what can happen on a Sunday.
- We do a lot of singing. Like, a lot. We have a choir, handbell choir, and frequent guest musicians, but our focus is helping everyone in the congregation find their own voice. (Plus it's a great way to practice listening to each other.)
- People will say hello. Just go with it. And while you're at it, go ahead and wear a name tag. We'd love to get to know you!
And afterward...
- Please join us for coffee hour for refreshments and casual conversation (and usually a class or choir rehearsal or mission project, etc.)
