"Love God, love your neighbor, love yourself"
Jesus says that's the best way to sum up the practice and point of our faith. He goes on to say that whenever we care for our neighbors, especially those whom the world considers "lowest and least," whenever we feed the hungry, house the homeless, visit the sick and those in prison, we are loving God (Matthew 25). Theologian and activist Dr. Cornel West puts it this way, "Just like tenderness is what love feels like in private," "justice is what love looks like in public" (speech at Howard University, 2011). So our faith calls us to make our love for God and our neighbors public, real, concrete in acts of justice, peace, and compassion. Here are some opportunities for us to do that in our communities today:
