The Congregational Church of Needham’s vibrant music program is one of the main reasons many of our members come on Sunday morning. An adult chancel choir sings every Sunday from mid-September through June. We also have three youth choirs who sing in church throughout the year. Many services feature beautiful vocal solos or instrumental pieces. The hymns are chosen to enhance the sermon theme. For the summer services, we give members of the congregation the opportunity to perform their choice of musical selections during worship for the enjoyment of all.
Chancel ChoirOur adult chancel choir performs every Sunday from September through June and also hosts a Christmas Concert that has become an annual tradition for many in the community. Rehearsals are every Thursday evening at 7:30pm. No rehearsals in July and August. The Chancel Choir always welcomes new voices! Contact Music Director Valerie Becker at [email protected] or 781-444-2510 to find out more.
Children’s choirs:There is always room in our thriving Youth Music Program! Regardless of prior experience, all children ages 3-18 are welcome to join in the fellowship, camaraderie, acting, and singing that are all part of our program!

Shepherd’s Staff (7th-12th grade) This choir focuses heavily on the musical foundation laid in the younger choirs and sings almost exclusively in divisi, frequently with multi-instrumental accompaniment. Rehersals are on Sunday afternoons from Noon-1pm.
Hallelujah Choir (3rd- 6th grade) These young musicians begin to work on music reading skills and harmony singing. This choir rehearses from 11:30-12 after worship on Sundays.
Joyful Noise (kindergarten-2nd grade) We begin to stealthily work on pitch and interval recognition, as well as rudimentary good performance habits. This choir practices from 9:15-9:45am before worship on Sundays.
Please join us to try it out! Pre-registration is not necessary.

Friendly ChimersComing together in fellowship and through a love of music, the Friendly Chimers formed in 2012 under the direction of Dr. Bobby DeRegis. This group of church members and friends comes together to play the hand chimes during Worship several times a year. The hand chimes are a musical instrument similar to the hand bells. They are meant to be held in your hand and rung with a rocking motion of your wrist. They produce a mellow sound that is less percussive than a traditional hand bell.
If you’ve ever wanted to play a musical instrument in a congenial small group, now is your chance to do so. The Friendly Chimers welcomes women or men who’d like to chime. You need to be able to keep time, have patience and know how to have fun! If you can read music, that’s great, but not necessary. Contact the church office at 781-444-2510 if you are interested.
